Do you love Dubai Style Shawarma? Check Out this Recipe

Shawarma is one of the most eaten foods in UAE. A lot of restaurants serve this mouth-watering dish in different manners. It is wrapped in Arabic Pita bread, overflowing with spicy chicken/lamb. A fresh and crunchy salad and yogurt sauce complete this Arabic street food. So Yummy and delectable!!!


In UAE, people mostly like to eat shawarma with a special fruit drink. This drink is made from combining the bananas and strawberries. Here is an easy and epic chicken shawarma recipe. Check out the ingredients and directions to prepare this Shawarma at home.

Ingredient for Meat:

  • Boneless skinless chicken breasts —- 1 lb, cut into small cubes
  • Egg —- 1, beaten lightly
  • Yogurt —- 1⁄2 cup
  • Black pepper —- 1 teaspoon
  • Cardamom powder —- 1 teaspoon
  • Cinnamon —- 1 teaspoon                                                                      Shawarma
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • Salt —- to taste
  • Canola oil —- 2 tablespoons
  • Red chili pepper flakes —- 1⁄2 teaspoon
  • Garam masala —- 1⁄2 teaspoon
  • Garlic paste —– 2 teaspoons
  • Ginger paste —– 1 teaspoon
  • Cardamom powder —- 1 teaspoon
  • Cinnamon —- 1 teaspoon

Ingredients for Salad:

  • Cucumber —- 1, chopped
  • Lettuce —- 1 cup, finely sliced
  • Tomato—- 1, chopped
  • Pomegranate seeds —- 3 tablespoons
  • Cilantro —- 3 tablespoons, chopped

For Dressing:

  • Yogurt —- 1⁄2cup
  • Cilantro chopped —- 2 tablespoons
  • Mint, chopped —- 2 tablespoons
  • Salt —– as per taste
  • 1 lemon, juice of

For Assembly:

  • Arabic Pita breads —- 6
  • Tabasco sauce —- as per taste

Servings: 6

Preparation Time: 35 Minutes


  1. In a large bowl, mix all the above-mentioned ingredients with the chicken pieces. Marinate the chicken in mixture. And keep this in a refrigerator for at least an hour or two.
  2. Fry the marinated chicken in a non-stick pan on medium to high heat. Keeping stirring until the chicken has cooked properly.
  3. In a separate large bowl, mix together all the dressing ingredients. Make a fresh salad of all above-listed ingredients.
  4. Heat the Arabic pita bread in a skillet to assemble the shawarma. Then place the chicken and salad on each bread slice.
  5. Sprinkle the yogurt dip and tabasco sauce over the chicken. Roll the bread and wrap it in baking paper. Enjoy this delicious meal immediately!
