Is Japanese Food Healthy To Eat?

The Japanese food can be considered one of the healthiest diets all over the world. But why? The reason is just one – healthier Japanese diet and lifestyle.

Japanese people have a greater life expectancy than the western people as they consume health-giving foods. Several studies have shown that Japanese men and women spend a longer life than everyone else in the world. They anticipate 79 and 86 years lived respectively while they can live an average of 75 years without any ailment and disability, according to the report of the World Health Organization. Japanese people believe that the consumption of proteins in greater quantities is essential because it is associated with health benefits. Fish contains a large content of omega-3 fatty acids which can lower the risk of heart diseases. So, they love to eat a lot of fish as an alternative to red meat. All types of fish are served in raw, fried, grilled, baked and poached forms in Japan. Sushi (raw fish on rice) is one of the most popular Japanese cuisines. These veggies are rich in fiber, vitamin C and other nutrients that can reduce the risk of cancer and other diseases. Steaming and frying are the two common Japanese cooking methods for vegetable, which ensure the maximum nutrients.

Soba noodles

Japanese soba noodles are also served as a staple food in Japan. These noodles are made from wheat and buckwheat flour which may help in regulating your digestive process. Soba noodles are an excellent source of fiber because they have no content of white flour. They can eliminate the extra cholesterol from the body by promoting regular bowel movement. That’s why these noodles are considered healthful to eat.

No doubt, Japanese food is good for you, but it is also a fact that it can make you sick. The reasons of why does Japanese food make you sick are below:

  • The major health issue with Japanese diet may be that it is full of refined carbohydrates. Such as, white rice, bread, and noodles are commonly consumed by Japanese, which are a great source of refined carbohydrates. And the excess of these foods can be risky for you, according to some studies.
  • Another threat is that Japanese cuisine is pretty high in salt. Condiments such as soy sauce are quite salty. So avoid eating this too much because they can disturb your blood sugar level. However, there are lots of salt-preserved foods including fish, umeboshi, salt-cured vegetables and pickled that you can consume in moderation if you don’t have blood pressure problems.
  • Japanese also like to use sugar quite a lot in their savory dishes, and it can make them sick. Mostly sugar is used in a very small amount, but in some dishes, it is used in more quantity to make them tastier. In Japan, there is no traditional dessert, while people love to eat sweet things as in- between meal snacks.

In this way, Japanese eating style discourages overeating and helps in weight loss. Several statistics have also shown that in Japan, people consume a small portion of food and have healthy lifestyle. Therefore, they live healthier and longer as compared to the people of other countries.
